Fall food preservation events!

Community Workshops, Food Preservation, Kitchen Workshops

Fall is upon us! We’re hosting a series of food preservation events within the next two months, with a little something for everyone. There is still time to take advantage of nature’s bounty and stash local food away for wintertime.

Eager learners can sign-up for hands-on workshops and curious chefs can pop in for a quick Saturday afternoon demo. Also, everyone should join us for Sample, Pound & Swap – a delicious opportunity to taste dozens of canned goods and our latest catering menu as well as an opportunity to swap preserves with other local canners or making just one more jar of kraut. Get out your agenda and sign up early so you don’t miss out!

Hands-on Workshops

Canning Apples – Tuesday, October 18th, 6:30 to 9:00 pm

$15 to $20 – click here to register online, or come register in person at the Roulant.

Want to learn to can? Here’s your chance! We’ll kick-off the evening by discussing canning procedures and safety concerns. Then we’ll make classic apple sauce, apple butter, apple chutney and apples in syrup. All participants will learn in a hands-on way and will return home with a jar of the canned apple product of their choice!

Intro to fermentation – Wednesday, November 2nd, 6:30 to 9:00 pm

$15 to $20 – click here to register online, or come register in person at the Roulant.

Would you like to save food for the winter while preserving its nutrition? Fermentation is just the thing! Dilly Carrots how-to – Saturday, October 22nd, 3:30 to 5:00 pm

Sample, Pound & Swap – Thursday, November 10th 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm – more info to come, families welcome!

We are planning a season closer where Roulant volunteers, neighbours and friends can come together, taste the Roulant’s Montreal-grown and community-made preserves, scope out the winter catering menu, make a jar of kraut to take home and swap preserves with other volunteers who got their water bath canner on! More details here.

Unable to attend any of these events?  Fear not!  We also make preserves, pickles, and ferments with volunteers in the Roulant kitchen 3 days per week! There’s more information here.

Please see the postings above and note whether or not advanced registration is required.  We have moved to using online registration to streamline the procees, but you can also register in person at the Roulant office. Should you have any questions or concerns about the event itself, email Isabelle or call her at 514-284-9335.

Please note that all events are fully wheelchair accessible except Sample, Pound & Swap.  Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to see if we can enable your participation.
