Who should I contact for more information?

Why is Santropol Roulant moving?
We are moving for three main reasons:
We have outgrown our space
We are interested in investing in a space that suits our particular needs (environmental sustainability, wheelchair accessibility, etc), and will allow us the stability we need over the long-term. This is not an option at 4050 St. Urbain and 111 Duluth.
Our leases expired in August 2009, and this gave us a deadline for decision-making. With no feasible possibilities in our current space over the long term, we have been planning since 2006 to determine the best course of action for Santropol Roulant and our community.

How does this project fit with Santropol Roulant’s mission?
This project allows Santropol Roulant to respond to growing and changing needs in the community, continuing to use food as a vehicle to break social isolation.  With a space that reflects our needs, programs and is wheelchair accessible we can offer more activities on-site to build a healthy, resilient, intergenerational community.

When are we moving?

Presently, we cannot provide an exact date due to the uncertainty of our construction schedule. We will remain in our kitchen at 111 Duluth until the big move. We were unable to extend our lease at 4050 St-Urbain, and left our office space at the end of August 2009.
Our hope is to move our entire operation to 111 Roy early in 2010. Stay tuned to this site for updates on the timeline

Will Securing our Future affect the Meals-on-wheels service?

We are committed to undertake this move without disrupting our meals-on-wheels service. It is our hope that our client-members will not feel any negative impact from this transition. The positive impacts of Securing our Future include a community space that is better suited for people with limited mobility, and a kitchen that is welcoming to people of all ages and abilities.  We hope that once it is complete you will be able to further participate in activities and come visit us on site!

How will Securing our Future affect me as a Volunteer?
Please sign up for shifts in the lounge beside the kitchen, where you enter through the white gate at 111 Duluth. Our phone number and email addresses will remain the same. When renovations are complete at 111 Roy, all of our activities will move there. We will email regular updates so that you have the latest news and know how any changes might affect our volunteer community.  Please also check the website for regular updates. Support from volunteers is so important now, and we hope you will take part in this adventure with us!

As a donor, will Securing our Future have an impact on me?
The Securing our Future project involves a fundraising effort larger than Santropol Roulant has ever undertaken. We will need your support more than ever to achieve our goals.  Please consider making a gift to this special campaign.  In addition, continued support for our core programs will keep us strong during this important time of transition. We will keep our donor members up to speed in our communications by mail, and by email upon request. For more information, questions or to make a gift, please click here or contact Elana at 514-284-9335!

How much do you need to raise?
Our goal for phase 1 of the campaign is $2.8 million.  For information on where we are at with the fundraising effort please click here.

How will the $2.8 million be spent?
$2.8 million dollars helps us purchase and renovate 111 Roy to suit our needs. It also allows us to buy essential equipment, including an elevator and walk-in freezer.  Finally the money raised will help us cover increases in operating costs associated with this new space for three years, giving us enough time to adapt our annual budget and cover the human resource and communication costs of Securing our Future.  To see the specific breakdown in the case for support click here.

Who has helped support this project?
This project has been supported by hundreds of people, including members, partners and organizations that have undertaken similar projects. Our legal support and project management has been pro bono, as was early architectural advice, and this support has been critical throughout the evolution of Securing our Future. We have received support from the Mayor’s office at the Plateau Mont-Royal borough, as well as our local MP.

Do you need help with construction, materials, moving, painting, etc?
Yes! For Santropol Roulant’s Securing our Future wishlist, please click here. If you have materials or equipment to donate or if you are interested in helping us move, paint or set up our new space please call 514-284-9335.

How will Securing our Future change Santropol Roulant?
From the beginning, this initiative has been about supporting the core mission and allowing us to continue and grow our work. Our first priority is to maintain our meals-on-wheels service. Once we are in our new home, we will explore the possibilities to improve and increase our impact in the community. This could mean more meals, new programs, working with new types of people, and even collaborating with partners in our new space. We don’t have the answers now. What we know is that our new home gives Santropol Roulant the capacity to continue to innovate and collaborate with our members and partners to build a well-nourished and intergenerational community.

Will the delivery routes change?
In the short term, we will not be changing our delivery routes or taking on additional meals-on-wheels clients, Once we are settled in 111 Roy will assess the need and move forward accordingly.

How can I keep informed on the progress of the project?
You can receive regular email updates by sending your email address to elana @ santropolroulant, org. We will keep this website as up to date as possible throughout the course of the project, including information about upcoming events and important dates for Securing our Future. If you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Santropol Roulant office at 514-284-9335!

Who is leading this project?
On the staff side, Securing our Future is been headed up by our Executive Director, Jane Rabinowicz, and Elana Ludman, Director of Development and Communications.
When Securing our Future began, we formed a steering committee to help guide our planning and vision. Members included Santropol Roulant board members and long-time supporters (Chad Lubelsky, Campbell Stuart, Daniele MacKinnon, Fred Poisson, Tolu Ilasanmi, Megan Webster and Jeff Arnold). Since then, many others have joined in to help support the project and move it forward.
This project has been envisioned by staff, board and over 300 community members.  Thank you to everyone who has participated so far!

Who are the Architects associated with this project?
Our design team is a partnership between two local firms - Chevalier Morales and Cernacek Boyer Suri Design

Is it going to be a green building?
During renovations we will be taking steps to ensure that we decrease the environmental impact of construction, as well as our environmental footprint once we move to our new building.  Our objective is not to install the latest green technology that might be costly and challenging to maintain, but rather take steps now that will decrease our impact and help showcase modifications that can be made for individuals and similar sized organizations.  For more information on the six focus areas of sustainability, click here.

How do I get to the site?
111 Roy is located at the corner of Coloniale.  The closest bus is the 55 and the closest metro stop is Sherbrooke.
