Did you know we are the only Meals-on-Wheels in Quebec that delivers on foot or by bike, 5 days a week, to almost 300 people in loss of autonomy?
In 2015, during the Mise au point project, we elaborated on an innovative backpack prototype in an effort to make our Meals-on-Wheels service the best available.
The most important characteristics are:
- Waterproof, easy to wash vinyl bags
- Highly isolating material;
- Comfortable and adjustable for all volunteers’ needs;
- Adapted to cyclists (no sharp angles) with reflective strips;
- Side pockets for the route sheet and personal belongings for the volunteers if needed;
- Two principal spaces: one for the main dish and another for the side dishes such as fruit or vegetable salads, cake, pudding or applesauce;
- Easy to access when packing and during the delivery;
- Made of a bright visible red!

Financial support
The backpacks were made possible with the financial support of the participants of the Harvest gala in 2015, our individual donors and the Birks Foundation, among others! We thank them warmly for their generous donation that continues to impact our daily services.
Production
We couldn’t make the bags happen without our genius designers and manufacturers, Virginie and Alain of Protogear, a textile prototyping service. In addition of being friendly, they advised and supported us through every single step of the project. We thank them for that.
Shared tool
At the Roulant, it is embedded in our values to share the tools that we develop; whether it be our Meals-on-Wheels recipes to our ways of managing the annual general meeting. That is why we are proud to share our backpack prototype with the community. Simply contact us for more details.
