Plant Wisdom Workshops, Hosted by Diasporic Herbalism

Community Workshops, Events, Kitchen Workshops, Partners

Diasporic Herbalism presents their Plant Wisdom workshop series, a dream project led by Barbara Saldaña (she/they) and co-coordinated with Sapphire Woods (they/them). Funded by Chantiers Jeunesse, this 5-month program is built to connect folks who are at least second or third generation of immigrants, newcomers, and QTBIPOC in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal with our herbal and food traditions, despite many of us being away from our respective homelands.

Join them in the Santropol Roulant kitchen for two of these workshops on August 27th and September 17th. Please note that these workshops will be hosted in English.

Dates: Sunday, August 27 and Sunday, September 17, 2023
Time: 1:00 to 3:00 PM
Where: Santropol Roulant kitchen, 111 Roy Street East, Montreal
Who: folks who are at least second or third generation of immigrants, newcomers, and QTBIPOC

Accessibility & Safety

The Santropol Roulant building and kitchen are universally accessible. Masks will be provided and are encouraged, as many participants are immunocompromised. Let’s keep each other as safe as possible!

More About the Program

The Plant Wisdom program is designed so that participants can also lead in what is being taught. We aim to create opportunities where participants can remember the knowledge that already lives in us and (re)connect by listening to people of all ages holding Indigenous and diasporic herbal and food medicine practices. Our diverse (and similar!) food traditions and Earth-provided medicines keep us connected to ourselves and hopefully bring us closer to other communities of various ethnic backgrounds.

Plant Wisdom runs 2-hour long workshops on Sundays for a group of 20-25 people. The first hour is typically a talk/group discussion with our facilitators with the second hour involving the application of the discussion through a medicine-making activity portion.

Venue choices are also intentional as our goal is to host in locations where participants can orient themselves to various community-centred organizations, farms and gardens, and food justice movements.
