2024 at the Roulant 12.2024Featured, Stories Despite the cold, Roulant volunteers and community members spread warmth this January with storytelling, an ice carving demonstration, and delicious hot soup! February brought democracy to the Roulant once again at the annual general meeting, where members of the Roulant vote to form the next board of governors. The 2024 total solar eclipse, a once in a lifetime event, was celebrated with awe at the Roulant! As one of four annual events celebrating the Roulant’s Meals-on-Wheels clients, this high tea event was a lovely way to welcome Spring! In May, volunteers and members of partner organization Comm-un gathered together in ceremony to plant the Three Sisters, an Indigenous method of companion planting where squash, corn, and beans help one other to grow. Featuring gardening volunteers, a DJ, and a plant sale, this summery event was a great example of how the Terrasses has become a community space! In the height of the summer heat, this volunteer 5 à 7 was a wonderful opportunity to get to know other volunteers and celebrate the mid-point of a year full of community. By far our biggest event of the year, the Roulant’s annual block party welcomed over two hundred community members and volunteers to eat, dance, and enjoy the summer sun together. This annual storytelling event is a fabulous opportunity for volunteers and staff to share their experiences and stories of the Roulant. After a full season of hard work, the agriculture volunteer party welcomed Fall in celebration of all those who got their hands dirty this year, with tasty soup and cozy fall vibes. This delightful event gives staff the opportunity to visit Meals-on-Wheels clients at home, bringing gifts of sweet treats and good conversations for staff and clients alike. This 70s and 80s themed Music Bingo volunteer appreciation party featuring hot dogs, dancing, and fun was a roaring success!
