Many staff changes will be happening in the kitchen in the coming weeks, as members of staff embark on new and exciting adventures. First, please join the Roulant team in congratulating kitchen manager Katherine, who will be going on maternity leave this October! In Katherine’s absence, kitchen coordinator JJ will be taking on the role of Acting Kitchen Manager.
The Roulant’s very own Ben Heaslip will be leaving the kitchen and moving into the new role of Meals-on-Wheels Community Resource & Support Coordinator. This position will involve supporting and integrating those most vulnerable in the Roulant community, and connecting said individuals with external resources.
As a result of these exciting developments, the kitchen will be welcoming two new Community Cooks in September: Laure & Elio!
Laure (she/they) comes to the Roulant with 15 years of experience in kitchens and non-profits like The People’s Potato, The Hive Cafe Solidarity Cooperative, and the Club populaire des consommateurs de Pointe-Saint-Charles – all organizations with similar values and missions to the Roulant. Laure was also instrumental in the creation of a free meals program for the trans women community in partnership with organizations TRAPS and MTF.
Elio (he/him) joins the Roulant with a degree in health sciences and culinary studies, and is eager to share his love of tasty and nutritious food with the Roulant community. Elio’s strong belief in the connective power of food and years of festival and kitchen experience makes him an exciting addition to the Roulant.
Drop by anytime to congratulate Katherine, see Ben and JJ in their new positions, or meet Elio & Laure.
