What is your connection to the Roulant? I stumbled upon the Roulant while researching a school project. I love the spirit of the Roulant and its approach to urban agriculture so I decided to start volunteering.
Tell us about your event. I participated in the 70.3 Mont Tremblant Triathlon. It’s a ½ Iron Man Triathlon: a 2-kilometre swim, followed by a 90-kilometre bike course and finishing with a 21-kilometre run. I spent a year training but an accident before the race made me question whether I should and could do it. I decided a month before to participate in the race and asked my community to donate to the Roulant in honour of the race. In total we raised over $400!
For how many years have you been organizing this event? This was my first year and I hope to complete a full Iron Man triathlon in the next 5 years.
If you were to plan another fundraiser for the Roulant in the future, what would you do differently? I would write a blog to explain the race and my training and to get people excited about the fundraiser.
What is one tip you would give someone who is organizing a similar event for the Roulant? For similar races, I suggest that people reach out to corporate sponsors. I didn’t have time to pursue any companies this time but I would if I did it again.
What types of events would you love to see hosted by ambassadors? Santropol Roulant always has such variety in its fundraisers and I would like to see that continue. Change it up and try something we haven’t seen before!
