Presenting a brand new canning opportunity: Apple butter!
Excited about the fall abundance of apples, but not sure what to do with them? How about apple butter, or delicious apple sauce?
Spend an evening with us in the Santropol Roulant community kitchen and learn the ropes of canning. Safe water-bath canning will be demystified and apple butter & sauce will be made. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of canning in a hands-on way! The same technique can be used to make chutneys, ketchups, salsas and fruit butters!
- When: Wednesday October 7th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
- Where: Santropol Roulant 111 Roy street East, Montreal
- Who: Anyone who would like to learn to can food!
- Cost: $45 per participant (jar of apple butter/sauce included!), proceeds will go to Santropol Roulant.

All participants will go home with a recipe, a step-by-step canning checklist, and a delicious 500 ml jar of apple butter/sauce made from Montreal-grown apples.
The workshop will be bilingual (French/English).
This workshop will be led by Isabelle, Santropol Roulant’s food preservation coordinator, and Karine, food preservation intern extraordinaire. Isabelle has been canning for 4 years both presenters love teaching people new skills.
Note: Please register in advance as the workshop will be limited to 12 participants in order to ensure a hands-on experience for all!
