Democracy in action: The Roulant’s AGM

Events, Governance, News

On March 31st, our space was emptied of desks and filled with humans, ballot boxes and food for our Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM is a unique opportunity for clients, volunteers, donors, staff and board members to discuss programming, governance and financial oversight of the Roulant.

The evening was full of presentations, food & dialogue. The community got a chance to get to know the six candidates to the board of directors and 143 (!) community members voted for candidates to fill the three available spots.

Choosing among the six candidates was no easy matter, and we’re extremely grateful to everyone who threw their hat into the ring. Having a competitive election contributes to the Roulant’s democracy, so thank you to all who had the courage to participate!

It’s with great pride that we congratulate Suzanne Bourque, Christopher Webster and Lindsay Wiginton on being elected to our Board of Directors for a two-year term. They will be joining Judith Colombo, Vani Jain, Wayne McIntyre, Marc Nisbet, Bernie Shalinsky and Sylvain Thériault to provide leadership, direction and oversight to our work in the coming years.

We would also like to thank David McNeil and Chris Kennedy, two outgoing board members, for the hard work and palpable passion they put into their work at the Roulant over the last few years.

The list of our members of our Board of Directors can always be found on our website.

Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to the evening’s vibrancy and success. We feel so grateful to have such amazing members. Our successful AGM is just one example, though a very strong one, of the wonderful work Santropol Roulant members do all year long.

A special thank you to the restaurants that contributed food:

And to Moog Audio and Mainline Theatre for helping us sound and look so classy!

And finally, an extra special thank you to our volunteers who cooked, welcomed, counted ballots, helped with the dishes, and generally made sure that the evening was a success. See below for some lovely pictures of the evening, courtesy of our photographers-extraordinary Alex Tran (below)  & Ivan Cito (coming soon!).
