Tuesday August 9th, come learn to make preserves at Santropol Roulant! Relishes and chutneys are perfect for turning garden staples such as zucchinis, cucumbers, beets, tomatoes or apples into delicious condiments. They are also the most beginner-friendly project out there; the texture is so easy to get right!
In a nutshell, you’ll learn:
- canning how-to and step-by-step workflow with a focus on relishes and chutneys
- sourcing and selecting recipe, we’ll provide our favourites: apple chutney, roasted beet and tomato relish, and cucumber and cumin relish.
- safe ingredient substitutions
- equipment
- processing time
All participants will go home with a recipe, a step-by-step canning checklist, and a delicious jar of relish or chutney!
The workshop will be bilingual (French/English). It will be led by Isabelle and Colleen. Isabelle is Santropol Roulant’s food preservation coordinator; she has been canning food for 5 years, and loves teaching people new skills.
