Welcoming Camila to the team

Agriculture, Basket, Market, Staff

The Roulant team is excited to welcome back Camila Gordillo, our new Farmer’s Market Development Coordinator. Camila will be working part time over the next few months to further develop strategies about how the Roulant’s produce can become more accessible to people with low incomes.

Camila is passionate about the power of soil and nature in sustaining life, health and culture, which led her to get involved in justice work, and food education and production projects. Her work at Santropol Roulant’s farm last year was a true learning experience that helped her deepen these passions. This year she is excited to pursue this path even further by working at the farm, office, and markets on a quest to increase Santropol Roulant’s capacity to positively impact communities by supplying healthy and accessible food!

This position is made possible through the Projet Proximité, funded by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec. The goal of this project is to improve the distribution of our farm’s produce to people with limited financial means through various solidarity models. These include working with differentiated price points, increasing availability of affordable food in different neighbourhoods, and making choices in crop planning which prioritize producing vegetables adapted to the needs of low income communities.

Initiatives such as our solidarity baskets, subsidized markets and meals-on-wheels contribute to making organic produce accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic status, level of mobility, or degree of autonomy. Projet Proximité offers us an opportunity to increase the impact of our current initiatives to build access to good local food outside of our meals-on-wheels program. The next steps will be to build on the success of these initiatives and share our models with other small scale organic farms across Quebec. It’s essentially an opportunity to help revolutionize access to healthy food across the province!

Please join us in welcoming back Camila to the team! Feel free to connect with Camila by email. You can learn more about the rest of the team on our staff page.
