Stories of Santropol Roulant – Jacqueline

Stories

Jacqueline – Volunteer

I am originally from the Lanaudière region of Quebec, but have lived in Montreal for twenty eight years. Before settling in Montreal, I lived in Cameroon for six years, then lived here for a few years before spending four years working on development projects in Haiti. Thanks to my time in Africa and Haiti, I was able to travel throughout the Caribbean and various countries in Africa. In total, I have been able to travel to thirty eight countries.

I came to Santropol Roulant because I heard that they had a garden on the rooftop and I had just moved to this neighborhood. Previously, I cared for all of the plants outside and inside of my house. I also had two balconies, whereas my new house doesn’t even have one. As I am a daughter of two farmers, I feel a need to work the land. For this reason, the garden at Santropol Roulant was the perfect place for me, so I became immediately involved as a volunteer in the gardens once a week.

About the blog series

Santropol Roulant is a beautiful community of members brought together by food and community engagement. In an effort to capture the diversity of our members, we are launching Stories of Santropol Roulant. One of our volunteers, Monica (pictured below), is setting out to photograph our members and collect quotes and short stories to share on our blog and social media. If you see Monica at Santropol Roulant with a camera in hand, feel free to approach her and say hello. We would love to hear your story! Contact brooke@santropolroulant.org if you have any questions or would like to be interviewed.
