Les Fruits Défendus is looking for motivated and autonomous individuals to lead our urban fruit harvests throughout the summer! Training dates: Wednesday June 7th, Saturday June 10th.
Les Fruits Défendus is Montreal’s volunteer-led urban fruit harvesting collective. Our project connects local fruit tree owners with volunteer harvesters and in doing so helps to reduce food waste.
What is a pick leader? Pick leaders are in charge of planning and leading our picks. After a mandatory training session in June, pick leaders adopt a fruit tree, track the ripeness of its fruit, and arrange a harvest with the tree owner and the pickers. You may adopt and harvest as many fruit trees throughout the season as you’d like!
As a pick leader, you’ll gain valuable leadership experience and form meaningful relationships within the collective and with the urban agriculture and food security communities of Montreal. Of course, you’ll also learn a lot about fruit in addition to receiving a share of fruit from our harvests!
All pick leaders must attend a mandatory training session to learn how to pick fruit and lead harvests confidently!
For the new pick leaders, we’re offering two training dates. You may choose to attend either our session on the evening of Wednesday June 7th OR our session on the afternoon of Saturday June 10th. Both will be held at Santropol Roulant.
For the experienced pick leaders of the collective, a refresher session will be held on June 10th at a location to be confirmed.
