Do you dream of making yummy local veggies into savory pickles? Not sure where to start? We’ll help you get going! Come learn the basics of vinegar pickling with our food preservation team in our community kitchen.
- When: Tuesday July 26th, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm (pardon the erroneous date in the newsletter!)
- Where: Santropol Roulant, 111 Roy street East
- Who: Anyone who would like to learn to make pickled vegetables, no experience necessary
- Cost: Suggested donation of $20 per participant (or $15 for students, seniors, the underemployed etc.). All proceeds are used internally to support our mission.
What you will learn
- Water bath canning how-to and step-by-step workflow
- Quick pickling, a speedy method that is perfect for small batches and experimentation
- Sourcing and selecting recipes
- Safe ingredient substitutions
- Equipment
- Processing time
All participants will go home with a recipe, a step-by-step canning checklist, and a delicious jar of dill pickles ($8 value)!
The workshop will be bilingual (French/English).
About the Presenters
It will be led by Isabelle and Colleen. Isabelle is Santropol Roulant’s Food Preservation Coordinator; she has been canning food for 5 years, and loves teaching people new skills. Colleen is our food preservation work share; she has grown her food preservation skills through her involvement at the Roulant and is great at mentoring others!
