Santropol Roulant is 20 years old! We could hardly have imagined that the seed of social change, planted in 1995, would grow to become a community food hub that is woven into the social fabric of Montreal today!
When we founded this meals-on-wheels service, we discovered the power of food as an vehicle to build social inclusion, the eagerness of Montrealers to engage with their community, and an opportunity to foster meaningful intergenerational connections on a daily basis.
Our initial work has been, and continues to be enriched by all the people who have contributed over the years. Many transformative ideas were brought and encouraged by members of our community such as container gardening, peri-urban agriculture, and educational programs in the kitchen and gardens. For all of your remarkable contributions, we are forever grateful.
As we look to the future, our dream is to share this model of community engagement and access to food. We want to extend our reach so that whether you’re a senior looking for a role in your community, a young farmer looking to develop leadership skills, or a like-minded organization looking to learn from our approach, people across Montreal and beyond can be touched by our work.
