The Farm Team: Farewell Samuel, Hello Adam!

Agriculture, Senneville Farm, Staff

As seasons change and seedlings grow, the familiar faces of the Roulant come and go. This winter we say goodbye to Samuel, who has been a brilliant part of the team since our very first farming season in 2012, and who left a significant mark on our agriculture program forever. Our approach to food security has evolved with the production of vegetables for many more Montrealers and 4 acres of beautiful fields where kids, groups, and interns can come and learn about local food.

A few words from Sam:

“For the last 4 years the Roulant and the farm have been an integral part of my life. From the first year where we opened the fields, using nothing but broadforks and rakes, to this past season where we were cultivating close to 3 acres, producing over 15000 kg of organic vegetables, I have grown and evolved with this project.

Working at the Roulant has been a privilege and I know the skills and experience I have honed over the last 4 years will certainly impact the work I will continue to do in agriculture and community building. Beyond the scope of a traditional farm, our work at the Roulant gives us and you, our supporters and community members, the opportunity to engage with food in many different ways. Over this time I have gained a profoundly deep understanding about the role food plays in building healthy, resilient communities. And while I am stepping away from my role as a farm manager, I will continue to incorporate my passion for food and community in my new projects.”

Joining Clemence this year as Co-manager of the Farm, we proudly introduce Adam to the team! Adam brings 4 years of experience managing a community driven farm in Kanehsatake, and a passion for human connection with nature.

“Growing up in the suburbs, west of Montreal, I’ve always had a fascination with plants and animals. Deciding that I wanted to pursue my interest in natural life I studied in Environmental and Wildlife Management at Vanier College. I started to explore the idea of growing organic food by volunteering at a farm in Senneville which led to an internship the following season. For the four years that followed, I started and co-managed a small-scale organic vegetable farm in Kanehsatake with my partner.

With the natural course of life always changing, yet remaining always true to my passion, my path has now found its way to Santropol Roulant where I can continue to cultivate human life from the land. The volition of my work is simply being able to produce real food directly from working the land and sharing it with others.”
