Last Thursday we enjoyed a beautiful outing to feast at l’Érablière Charbonneau! Some 60 clients, volunteers and staff took the road trip to Mont St Gregoire, building intergenerational relationships and community in one. The menu at the sugar shack was an extravaganza: crepes, ham, omelet and tourtière were all doused in delicious maple syrup. We ate like kings and queens!
Though gathering around a delicious meal is usual for the Roulant, the sugar shack trip holds special significance as many of our meals-on-wheels clients have fond memories from their youth and childhood there. As we serve a population that is often socially isolated, it’s extremely important to us to ensure their enjoyment and inclusion at these activities. This is why each client is paired with a volunteer “buddy”, who has the opportunity to enjoy a meal with them, or go for a walk or tractor ride!
After we had eaten more than was good for us, clients, vols and staff alike all trooped out to the sunshine to enjoy music led by our talented chef Jeremie and volunteer Amelia. We would like to extend our gratitude to our dedicated volunteers for making this day possible, our clients for trusting us in this adventure, and the team at l’Érablière Charbonneau for making this an enjoyable day!
We would also like to thank GlobeCar for providing us with a last-minute, affordable car rental to help transport our clients and volunteers to and from the event.
