Stories of Santropol Roulant – Laurine

Stories

Laurine – Volunteer

I am a political science student on exchange from France for six months. It’s the first time that I have been away from Europe, but I decided to come to Montreal so that I could try courses in urban planning at the Université de Montréal. I chose to study political science because it allows me to touch on a little bit of everything: sociology, economics, history, and more. I’ll only be studying in Montreal for one semester, but after my classes are finished, I will have two months of free time, during which I would like to get involved in the community and do useful things with my time.

I first heard of Santropol Roulant when I stumbled upon one of its catering menu tasting events on Facebook. Since I was looking for a place to volunteer, I researched Santropol Roulant’s activities and decided to attend the tasting event I saw advertised. There, I met a lot of people and decided to get involved.

The time is passing quickly here and I’m already beginning to think about the fact that in two months, it will already be time to leave Montreal. I think I would like to return here after I am finished my studies to work. I might like to do a Masters in urban planning or come to do an internship. I’m curious about everything, so I still have thousands of things to discover.

About the blog series:
Santropol Roulant is a beautiful community of members brought together by food and community engagement. In an effort to capture the diversity of our members, we are launching Stories of Santropol Roulant. One of our volunteers, Monica (pictured below), is setting out to photograph our members and collect quotes and short stories to share on our blog and social media. If you see Monica at Santropol Roulant with a camera in hand, feel free to approach her and say hello. We would love to hear your story! Contact rachel@santropolroulant.org if you have any questions or would like to be interviewed.
