Salsa Canning Workshop

Community Workshops, Food Preservation, Kitchen Workshops

Come learn to make preserves at Santropol Roulant! Salsa is a great beginner project as it’s fairly quick to prepare. It’s also a good way to learn all the steps of safe water bath canning.

  • Where: Santropol Roulant, 111 Roy street East
  • Who: Anyone who would like to learn to make pickled vegetables, no experience necessary
  • Cost: Suggested donation of $20 per participant (or $15 for students, seniors, the underemployed etc.). All proceeds are used internally to support our mission.

In a nutshell, you’ll learn:

  • canning how-to and step-by-step workflow
  • sourcing and selecting recipes.
  • safe ingredient substitutions
  • equipment
  • processing time

All participants will go home with a recipe, a step-by-step canning checklist, and a delicious jar of salsa made from organic vegetables grown at the Roulant Farm, right here on the island!

The workshop will be led by Isabelle and Colleen. Isabelle is Santropol Roulant’s food preservation coordinator. She has been canning food for 5 years and loves teaching people new skills.  Colleen is our food preservation work share. She has grown her food preservation skills through her involvement at the Roulant and is great at mentoring others. The workshop will be bilingual (French/English).
