Round table & 5-7: Urban agriculture, what are the benefits for the environment?

Agriculture, Events

On the occasion of World Environment Day, we wish to address in particular the environmental benefits of urban agriculture in the form of a round table followed by a 5-7.

WHAT?

The round table will discuss with practitioners and researchers the role and effect of urban agriculture in the urban environment. There will be a 5-7 with small bites prepared by the Santropol Roulant team and Carrefour food Center-South. On the menu, there will be networking, celebrations of the beginning of the season, along with open discussions, and much more!

WHEN?

June 5th starting at 3:00pm for the round table followed by a 5-7.

HOW MUCH?

Free,  however a suggested voluntary contribution of 20$ for the attendance at the round table and the 5-7. (Give what you can!)

Urban agriculture offers many benefits to cities including economic and social functions. Control of heat islands, reduction of mileage, catchment of runoff, energy efficiency at the building level are only a few of the advantages mentioned in the literature.

On the other hand, some articles highlight elements such as the displacement of land from the countryside to the cities, the exploitation of peatlands, the unsustainability of the resources used, the insignificant effect of annuals on the struggle to heat islands, competition between honeybees and native pollinators, etc.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
