The Job
Do you have experience in farming? Are you looking for a job that aligns with your values for community engagement and sustainable agriculture? Well, step right up! In collaboration with our funding partners, we create seasonal opportunities for Canadian youth in our agriculture programs. The farm also plays an important role in training the next generation of farmers while at the same time meeting our production needs: an organic basket program to feed our community.
The Requirements
- Experience harvesting, planting or picking;
- Desire to work collaboratively and with a team;
- Excited about working with the land, doing physical labour;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative;
- Comfortable working outside in variable weather conditions;
- Punctual.
The Responsibilities
- Transplanting seedlings and direct seeding;
- Setting up and operating irrigation equipments;
- Weeding, pest control, staking, pruning, and thinning;
- Harvesting and conditioning vegetables by hand;
- Participating in, and then leading community tours and groups of children at the farm;
- Supporting volunteers’ participation in the work at the farm;
- Inform farm managers of crop progress or issues.
The Pay and Perks
The starting wage for this full-time role is $15.76 according to the remuneration policy. All jobs at Santropol Roulant, whether seasonal, temporary, permanent, part or full-time, offer staff complementary benefits in addition to annual inflation-based increases including one week off per year for a holiday of choice, in addition to regular vacation time, paid time off for personal reasons, personal equipment allowances for some staff, and quarterly cash transfers to support wellness, leisure and investment. We also have leftovers in the community fridge sometimes, and all the dessert you can eat (sometimes even brownies or cheesecake!)

Note
Farm work is physically tough. The job requires working totally exposed to the elements, occasionally in covered spaces such as the greenhouses. You can expect exposure to minor cuts, bites and stings; heat, dust and pollen particles, working with equipment, sharp objects, and tripping hazards. The job also requires constant kneeling; crouching; twisting, lifting 10kg frequently throughout the day.
