Last Thursday, the community came together to celebrate our 20th anniversary at Rue Fermier, and we could never have imagined what a beautiful evening it would turn out to be, surrounded by such a wonderful, diverse and warm-hearted group of people.
We are still basking in the positive energy of the evening, putting together all of the fun bits of info and feedback , and all the while serving up meals, growing vegetables and putting our desks back together. So if we forgot anything important from these highlights, please let us know, we’ll certainly have more to share soon!
Maximum Participation:
We are excited to share that during Rue Fermier, over 1000 people entered our doors, came to a workshop, or partied in the street! 350 people voted in the Iron Chef competition and many more helped paint our wall, visited our Timeline, and purchased every last vegetable from our farmer’s market. 25 meals-on-wheels clients joined in the fun, and many of you expressed your excitement about the future of the Roulant!
Iron Chef Results:
- Congratulations to Centrale Culinaire who won over the public pallet with their beet-flatbread topped with green pea hummus and garden ceviche.
- The silver medal goes to none other than the NDG Food depot community team at the for their scrumptious carrot balls.
- The Green Panther took third prize with their vegan pulled-pork.
- Cafe M, Fabergé, Learning from our elders, and Icehouse : you guys rock!

All of the VOLUNTEERS who helped out with organizing workshops (thanks collectives!), passing out flyers, designing posters, being MC’s, sound tech, first aid, setting up, running the bar, accompanying meals-on-wheels clients, setting up the Timeline, helping with the Iron chef, welcome tables, as gatekeepers, clean up and so much more. This event and all of the Roulant’s work over the past 20 years would not have been possible without you!
Have any feedback about the event? Want to share the highlights, special memories or areas to improve? We’re eager to hear from you! Please send your comments to rachel@santropolroulant.org. We’re already thinking about ways to improve the flow around restaurant stands in the future and create more comfortable spaces for people with reduced mobility.
