Stories of Santropol Roulant – Ruth

Seniors, Stories

Ruth – meals-on-wheels client

I am from New York and I moved to Montreal in 1992. I was born in the South Bronx but lived in different parts of New York as I grew up. I worked at the Saint Vincent Hospital for a while as a student nurse, but decided that nursing wasn’t for me. For some time, I was also a dancer in a Brooklyn dance company.

When I lived in New York, the bus was a dime. I would walk down to Fifth Avenue and take the bus all the way up and all the way down the street. New York is very electric and there was always a lot to see.

These days, I spend my time doing exercises and listening to audio books. I have two Masters degrees, one in History, so I read some very good books. I write a lot and am actually currently writing a book called Out of the Loop, which is what you are when you hit seventy-five or eighty years old. I am not your typical Santropol Roulant client, I don’t think.

About the blog series:
Santropol Roulant is a beautiful community of members brought together by food and community engagement. In an effort to capture the diversity of our members, we are launching Stories of Santropol Roulant. One of our volunteers, Monica (pictured below), is setting out to photograph our members and collect quotes and short stories to share on our blog and social media. If you see Monica at Santropol Roulant with a camera in hand, feel free to approach her and say hello. We would love to hear your story! Contact rachel@santropolroulant.org if you have any questions or would like to be interviewed.
